Different Types Of Atrial Fibrillation And Columbus CPR Classes

A sign that you might have a heart condition called Atrial fibrillation (AFib) - if your ticker races rather than beats and the feeling lasts for a few minutes. It’s a common heart condition and it doesn’t so much have types as it has durations. Healthcare providers classify it by how long it lasts, or what causes it- treatment depends on this.

Faulty electrical signals make your heart flutter or beat too fast when you have this condition. This abnormal rhythm stops the ticker from pumping as efficiently as it should which can slow down flow of blood, slow enough to pool and form clots. Atrial fibrillation raises your chances for a stroke and other heart complications. Some of these symptoms, such as shortness of breath or chest pain, can imitate those of a heart attack. Call your doctor or dial 911, if you aren’t sure whether you have AFib or you're having a heart attack. Some of the symptoms of A-fib include heart palpitations, confusion, dizziness, shortness of breath. Also, you might feel pain and pressure in your chest, sweaty, tired, weak, etc.

Sign up for a CPR class Columbus and equip yourself in the life-saving CPR technique. The procedure comprises chest compressions and rescue breaths. Proper application can revive the life of a victim involved in a cardiac emergency like a life-threatening cardiac arrest.
Types of A-fib:

Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation- This is an episode of A-fib that lasts less than a week. You should see a doctor, you might not need treatment with this type of A-fib though.

Persistent Atrial Fibrillation- This usually lasts longer than a week which could stop on its own, or you may need medicine or treatment to stop it. Doctors might use a low-voltage current to reset your heart’s rhythm to normal called electrical cardioversion if medicines do not work.

Long-Standing Persistent Atrial Fibrillation- It means your A-fib has lasted for more than a year and doesn’t go away. Doctors tend to use another kind of treatment, such as ablation (which burns certain areas of your heart’s electrical system) to restore your normal heart rhythm as medicines treatment like electrical cardioversion may not stop the AFib.

Permanent (Chronic) Atrial Fibrillation- Treatments cannot correct this. You might need long-term medication to control your heart rate and lower your odds of having a stroke if you have this type.

Valvular Atrial Fibrillation- This is brought on by a heart valve problem which could be an artificial heart valve, valvular stenosis (when one of your heart valves stiffens), or regurgitation.

Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation- This isn’t caused by a problem with a heart valve. The type of medicine your doctor will prescribe to help lower your odds of having a stroke depends on whether your A-fib is valvular or nonvalvular.

Acute Onset Atrial Fibrillation- This rapid, chaotic heartbeat comes on quickly and goes away as quickly which usually resolves itself in 24-48 hours.

Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation- This is the most frequent complication of cardiovascular surgery that increases your odds of heart failure and cerebral infarction (brain injury resulting from a blood clot blocking blood flow in the brain).
