Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency, during which the heart stops pumping blood with the brain beginning to starve of oxygen. CPR can play a key role in this regard. It is an effective procedure that allows a provider to function as the patient’s heart—pumping blood through the body by hand until the arrival of emergency medical services. Anyone can perform CPR, it’s very easy to learn.
Choose a certified training center for acquiring training. Being a resident of the Columbus region in Ohio, look no further than the acclaimed and AHA certified CPR Columbus. Both theoretical and practical training are imparted to the students.
During a sudden cardiac arrest, you collapse without a warning. The heart stops beating and oxygenated blood stops flowing to the brain and other organs. Within seconds, an individual stops breathing and has no pulse. The immediate cause of most sudden cardiac arrests is an abnormal heart rhythm. The ticker’s electrical activity becomes chaotic, and it can’t pump blood to the rest of the body. Conditions that can trigger SCA include:
1. Coronary Artery Disease
2. Cardiomyopathy (the heart muscle becomes enlarged or thick)
3. Long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome (these disorders of the ticker’s electrical system can cause abnormal heart rhythms)
4. Heart Birth Defects
Prompt action in the form of proper administration of the life-saving CPR techniques is what can ensure a victim’s survival. There are courses for both healthcare and non-healthcare providers.
Here's some information on BLS training:
Basic Life Support Training Classes- This AHA BLS program, also known as Basic Life Support or BLS for Healthcare Providers, Columbus is geared towards training individuals currently working in healthcare or planning a career in healthcare. In the first time BLS class students will learn adult, child, and infant CPR. Students are also trained on the use of an Automated External Defibrillator or AED. Added training on how to use and perform rescue breaths using a bag valve mask are also provided. This device is found in hospitals, offices, and many other healthcare facilities. The class concludes with time dedicated to learning how to rescue choking infants, children, and adults.
Chest Compressions Depth:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation procedure is a series of chest compressions and rescue breaths which when applied in the ratio of 30:2 can revive the life of a SCA victim. But the question that keeps lingering is “what is the ideal depth of CPR chest compressions?” The answer to which is no deeper than 5.5 centimeters, or about two inches, in adults. Any deeper can lead to internal organ damage whereas any shallower may not result in effective pumping of blood through the body.
An individual with a lot of strength may over-deliver whereas an individual with no experience pushing on a human body with a force equivalent to about 60 pounds may be too delicate in performing the compressions.
Only a good amount of training and a lot of practice is what can help in getting the feel for how much pressure to deliver.
